25th June 2012: Zhenya Strigalev makes The Guardians’ ‘Take Five Blog’ from John Fordham’s list of musical milestones of June, 2012!!

John Fordham, the UK’s best known Jazz Critic, has chosen Zhenya Strigalev’s four-night CD launch extravaganza as one of his musical milestones for the month of June, 2012.  Click here to read the mention and also to listen to a track from Zhenya’s album ‘Smiling Organizm’ which we are happy to see included on the Guardian’s page alongside the review.

Anyone who was down at the launch gigs saw fireworks as the band consisted of Zhenya on alto sax, UK pianist Liam Noble and Steve Fishwick on trumpet turning out extraordinary performances, and a lethal bass team of Tim Lefebvre & WWR’s own Michael Janisch, who even did some dueling bass numbers where the bassists switched from both electric to double bass within the same tune.  On drums was the one and only Obed Calvaire, who raised the bar each night with his explosive yet highly musical drumming.

The press for ‘Smiling Organizm’ has been great around the club, stop by our Audio page to hear full track samplers, or click ‘Smiling Organizm‘ to visit his album page to hear previews of all the tracks as well as purchase if you so desire! We don’t think you’ll be disappointed. 🙂
