Whirlwind Recordings is a musician-owned and operated, London based indie record label founded in 2010. Since its inception, the label has released an eclectic catalogue of over 240 albums, providing a platform for adventurous, visceral music rooted in originality, with a strong emphasis on improvised and forward looking music that spans genres.
The label’s roster ranges from established masters to defining voices of their generation and emerging artists in the early stages of their careers. Whirlwind has built an international reputation for artist led development, high production values and a commitment to creative risk taking within contemporary music.
Albums and artists signed to the label have received significant international recognition through their Whirlwind releases, including Grammy, Juno, and MOBO Award wins and multiple nominations, alongside dozens of best of the year selections across leading global jazz and improvised music publications. Whirlwind was founded by electric & double bassist, composer, producer and solo artist Michael Janisch.
