10th June 2020: Michael Olatuja and Angélique Kidjo music video for ‘Lagos Pepper Soup’ premiered on PopMatters + features from WBGO & Pop Matters + full album released on Friday on CD / DL / 12″ 180g LP Vinyl

In anticipation of Lagos Pepper Soup, the latest release from bassist Michael Olatuja, he has teamed up with Angélique Kidjo to release the music video for ‘Lagos Pepper Soup’. The title track is a summary of what the album is all about – the band lay down a cooking intercontinental groove over which Kidjo delivers a stunning vocal performance: “All these guests are people I’ve worked with, who inspire me and who I consider friends. Angélique has been one of my heroes for many years and working with her was a dream come true. She blew it out the water.”

The video for ‘Lagos Pepper Soup’ premiered on Pop Matters. You can find it in full on Michael’s YouTube channel: here.

Below are a selection of quotes from recent features of Lagos Pepper Soup, which releases on 12th June on CD / DL / 12″ LP 180g Limited Edition Vinyl: here.

“Bassist Michael Olatuja opens “Lagos Pepper Soup”, the title track of his upcoming album, with a flurry of plucked, playful notes, scattered over the track’s polyrhythmic backbone. It isn’t long before they settle into an upbeat melody, bright and driving: a celebration of life, culture, family, and the many things still worth staying positive about.”
