11th September 2015: Jazzwise Magazine reviews Tam de Villiers’ ‘Panacea’ ahead of official UK album launch at ‘Whirlwind Nights at The 606’ 7th October.

For the the best part of a decade, British-born guitarist Tam de Villiers (now firmly established in France) has been striving for musical authenticity, compositional originality and honest group interplay.
A core aim of  recent release Panacea was to build upon the long-standing musical relationship of de Villiers’ quartet and use this as a vehicle to exploit a new, challenging repertoire of compositions written by Tam over the course of the previous two years.
The result is a collection of varying pieces, instrument and vocal, that takes the listener on both a cerebral and visceral voyage.

Tam will be officially launching Panacea at the next ‘Whirlwind Nights at the 606’ on 7th October in a double bill also featuring George Crowley and his band. Check back for full details.

Meanwhile, the album continues to receive positive press. Here’s a highlight from a recent review in Jazzwise Magazine.

“A French-based guitarist with a band featuring saxophonist David Prez and tasteful Hungarian guest vocalese singer Gabor Winand, this impressive quartet has a kinship with Tim Berne’s angular, avant funk-jazz band Science Fiction among others.”
