Below we have featured the latest news entry from drummer and composer Dave Hamblett’s website:

“The last few months have been very exciting, I’ve been all over the place playing and done some really nice gigs, so here is a quick summary of what’s been keeping me busy.

Back in May I helped launch Sam Crowe’s album “Towards the Center of Everything”  to a packed out Vortex crowd which was a lot of fun, its a great album worth a listen. It’s out on Whirlwind Recordings. With Sam’s band In June we also played gigs in Bristol, Cardiff, Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express and a festival in Djakovo, Croatia. I also had a trip to Skien in Norway to play with Jez Franks/Tori Freestone’s Compassionate Dictatorship.

In June I had the pleasure of playing a one off date at the 606 with saxophone legend George Garzone, he is one of the greatest tenor players in the world and it was a great experience playing a gig with him.

In July, I played gigs with various bands including those of Matt Robinson, Kristian Borring, John Martin, an album recording with Tommy Andrews Quintet which is due for release early 2014. On the 25th July we launched Reuben Fowler’s debut “Between Shadows” which is a Big Band album on Edition Records featuring an amazing band including Stan Sulzmann, Jim Hart, and Tom Harrell.

With Ivo Neame’s Octet we played the famous North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam, which was an amazing experience, so many brilliant musicians in one place, I got to see some great gigs and was very cool to be part of it. Hopefully I’ll get to play there again soon!

Last weekend I had chance to play with Michael Janisch’s Purpose Built Quartet for a gig in Wales. We were playing music from his album of the same name which you can check out here.

Exiciting things are coming up later this year with an extensive UK tour with Kieth Loftis and Jean Toussaint, a tour with Ivo’s Quintet, recordings with Paul Riley, Matt Robinson, Max Luthert and Chris Hyson. My band are playing some gigs this autumn including one in the London Jazz festival! all very exciting stuff!”

Dave released his album debut solo release ‘Light at Night’ on WWR back in February and received great press, with BBC Radio 3 stating that “Dave Hamblett’s writing is passionate and powerful” and Jazzwise Magazine announcing Dave as “The next drummer-bandleader to watch out for…On [Light at Night] there’s no shortage of raw talent involved.”
