17th April 2012: And we’re off…. The Press starts coming in for George Crowley’s Debut Album ‘Paper Universe’

London based Tenor Saxophonist and Composer George Crowley has been on the London creative music scene since 2007, earning a masters degree from the Royal Academy of Music and working with a varied cross section of the UK’s best up and coming jazz and improvising musicians. Excitedly, as of MAY 7 2012, he is releasing his debut album ‘Paper Universe‘ right here on Whirlwind Recordings and we couldn’t be happier as we feel this album has strong potential to be one of the debut albums of the year (and not just in the UK either). Just check out some of the previews to hear for yourself.  George has put together a program of original music with the scope and depth rarely heard from a band of twenty-somethings.  He calls on his long time associate Kit Downes on piano (who recently was nominated for a Mercury Music Award), bassist about town Calum Gourlay, and first call drumming sensation James Maddren, and the four musicians play with a group empathy that defies their age, while drawing from a myriad of influences and music traditions from around the globe, all routed in the foundations of jazz and improvised musics.

The press campaign is underway for ‘Paper Universe’ and we’re happy to report the first review has come from the popular UK blog site ‘Bebop Spoken Here‘

Look for much more in the near future, and in the meantime check out the Paper Universe page on our site.  The album will be in stores across the UK as of May 7th, and on over 50 digital downloading sites worldwide (excluding streaming sites) as well.
