3rd June 2016: Zhenya Strigalev and ‘Never Group’ announce 17 date tour of British Isles + live video and latest album reviews.

Alto saxophonist and composer Zhenya Strigalev is one of the rising stars of the European jazz scene and is fast building a reputation on both sides of the Atlantic for his exhilarating take on contemporary jazz. His live shows are as exciting as they are uniquely eccentric, and after headlining around Europe with sold out shows at Porgy & Bess in Vienna and Ronnie Scotts in London he brings his new, powerhouse trio featuring the extraordinary US bassist Michael Janisch (Joe Lovano, Miguel Zenon, Gary Husband) and first-call Spanish drummer Marc Ayza (Jason Linder, Greg Osby) to the British Isles this July for an extensive 17 date tour. (Scroll down for details)

Above is a video from a recent show at Sunset Jazz Club, Girona, Spain. Both ‘Bio Active’ and ‘Some Thomas’  have received airplay on radio shows such as Jazz FM’s The BluePrint and Never Group was recently reviewed on Radio Cardiff’s Slice of Jazz (listen again)

Rave reviews continue to arrive for Never Group and here are some highlights:

“This is a big fat slice of determinedly hip Euro-American boundary-pushing jazz/fusion/whatever… Lefebvre is rapidly becoming known as one of the most creative bass guitarists working today, and Harland is simply a powerhouse of ideas…”
Jazz Views (full review)

“Strigalev is a musician bursting with ideas and with energy… Lefebvre and Harland are a monster rhythm team and the whole thing has an envigorating bustle.”
The Jazz Breakfast (full review)

“It’s the tumult of ideas from the main players, plus Strigalev’s puckish humour, that leave the listener exhilarated and exhausted an hour later.”
