Sean Wayland

Profile

Sean Wayland is well-recognised for his stylistic diversity and breadth of influences across piano contexts. He provides a strong anchor on bassist Orlando le Fleming’s tribute to the muscular, high-intensity fusion of the 1980s, Romantic Funk: The Unfamiliar.

Born in Sydney, Wayland relocated to New York at the turn of the millenum after receiving a grant from the Australia Council to study jazz piano in New York. There, he has collaborated with artists such as Madeleine Peyroux, Tim Miller, Ingrid Jensen, David Binney, Wayne Krantz, Seamus Blake, Jochen Reuckert, Will Vinson, Donny McCaslin and Tim Lefebvre
