Grammy-nominated, MacArthur Fellow Regina Carter is one of the world’s pre-eminent jazz violinists. She contributes to Michael Olatuja’s epic track ‘The Hero’s Journey’ on Lagos Pepper Soup, marking her first appearance on Whirlwind Recordings.

Carter began studying the violin at New England Conservatory of Music, before gaining attention with Straight Ahead, an all-female jazz quintet, and with The String Trio of New York. She has recorded eight solo albums, including the most recent Swing States: Harmony in the Battleground, released in the midst of the 2020 US election. She has topped multiple readers’ and critics’ polls from DownBeat and JazzTimes, and has performed alongside Jenny Barron, Ray Brown, Mary J. Blige and Omara Portuondo.
