Orlando le Fleming (L)

Profile

Among the most sought-after bassists in the field of contemporary jazz, Orlando le Fleming’s work spans heavy grooves and funk pastiches, bound by a commitment to the bass as a versatile harmonic and melodic player. Romantic Funk: The Unfamiliar is the second album from the Romantic Funk series, a tribute to the muscular, high-intensity fusion of the 1980s.

Le Fleming moved to New York in 2003, and since then has appeared with the likes of Branford Marsalis, Joey Calderazzo, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Bill Charlap, Billy Cobham, Wayne Krantz, Ari Hoenig, Seamus Blake, Jeff “Tain” Watts and David Sanchez. The celebrated OWL Trio (with Lage Lund and Will Vinson) increased his status on the New York scene, eventually establishing himself as a strong ‘doubler’.
