Matija Dedić (L)

Profile

Born in Zagreb in 973, Matija Dedić started playing classic piano at the age of five. His father Arsen Dedić was an award winning musician and his mother Gabi Novak sang with Louis Armstrong, Gary Burton, Phil Woods, Toots Thielemans, Helen Merrill and Joe Turner.

After he finished Music high school «Vatroslav Lisinski» in 1991, he went to the Jazz Academy in Graz and graduated in 1997.

He has played widely as a leader and sideman across Europe.

He writes music for television and theatre, and plays with some of the most recognised pop performers on the Croatian music scene. He was awarded ‘Best composer and best jazz newcomer of the last 10 years’ by the Croatian Composers Society  for his album Octopussy.

Matija performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival as one of 11 finalists chosen from more than 400 pianists from around the world.
