Logan Richardson (L)

Profile

Logan Richardson is an alto saxophonist, composer and producer whose career has been marked by a both deep engagement with the Black American improvised music tradition and an open-minded embrace of contemporary and future-facing sounds. His fifth solo album Afrofuturism synthesises those elements, providing a deep, intimately personal view into its creator’s inner life.

His leader debut came on the 2007 album Cerebral Flow, before making his Blue Note leader debut in 2015 with Shift. Alongside solo engagements, Richardson is also in demand as a sideman in projects with some of the biggest names in creative improvised music, including Jason Moran, Ambrose Akinmusire, Pat Metheny, Christian Scott Atunde Adjuah and Gerald Clayton. He is also a member of the NEXT Collective, a group formed in the ‘Young Lions’ mould, and founded his own label, Wax Industry, in 2020.
