Laura Mvula

Profile

British-born singer Laura Mvula is known for her inventive, atmospheric mix of R&B, jazz and synth-pop. Mvula’s first appearance on Whirlwind Recordings comes on the uplifting ‘Brighter Day’ with bassist Michael Olatuja’s Lagos Pepper Soup.

Born in Birmingham, Mvula studied at Birmingham Conservatoire, before being longlisted for BBC’s Sound of 2013 poll in the same year she released her debut full-length album Sing to the Moon. This garnered Mvula a Mercury Prize nomination and two MOBO awards. This album was later reworked with the Metropole Orkest and conductor Jules Buckley, and, following her star-studded second album The Dreaming Room, her new release Pink Noise sees her return to the stage revitalised.
