Gilad Hekselman (L)

Profile

Gilad Hekselman has established himself as one of the leading voices in jazz guitar. The native Israeli made his mark on the New York scene quickly following his move in 2004, performing alongside Chris Potter, Eric Harland, Mark Turner, Anat Cohen, Ari Hoenig, Esperanza Spalding, Jeff Ballard, Ben Wendel, Gretchen Parlato, Avishai Cohen, Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts, Tigran Hamasyan, Aaron Parks, Becca Stevens, John Scofield, Terri Lyne Carrington and Danilo Perez. Trio Grande marks Hekselman’s Whirlwind debut, which sees him team up with fellow New York residents Will Vinson and Antonio Sanchez to interrogate the possibilities of trio playing without a bass voice.

Hekselman has become known for consolidating and expanding the classic guitar trio sound, all the while bringing something fresh to the mix. He has recorded five solo albums to date, and has toured internationally, playing at the top jazz clubcs (Blue Note, Village Vanguard, Smalls) and noteworthy jazz festivals including Montreux, North Sea and Montreal.
