Camille Thurman is a rising star in jazz as a composer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, making a considerable and dynamic contribution to the legacy of jazz while paying tribute to its heroes. Her first appearance on Whirlwind is as a singer, adding notable finesse to ‘Bola’s Song’ and ‘Grace’ on Michael Olatuja’s exploration of diasporic African musical culture, Lagos Pepper Soup.

She has shared the stage with the likes of Wynton Marsalis, Dianne Reeves, Kenny Barron, Charles Tolliver, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Diana Krall, Janelle Monáe, Alicia Keys, Lalah Hathaway, Jill Scott and Erykah Badu. She was the first woman to tour and perform two full seasons with the Jazz at the Lincoln Center Orchestra, and is a winner of the Fulbright Scholars’ Cultural Ambassador Grant.
