Four-time Grammy Award winner Angélique Kidjo is one of the biggest artists in international music today, a creative force with thirteen albums to her name. Described by Time Magazine as “Africa’s premier diva”, Angélique appears on Whirlwind for the first time as part of Michael Olatuja’s Lagos Pepper Soup, a project that seeks to bind three parts of the globe under the banner of creative improvised music.

The French-Beninese singer has explored the roads of Africa’s diaspora, charting course through Brazil, Cuba and the United States. Kidjo is included in the BBC’s list of the most inspiring and influential women from around the world in 2020, has graced the cover of the New York Times and made the Forbes Magazine list of the Most Powerful Celebrities in Africa. She is an Oxfam and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
