This week sees the launch of two exciting new events for Whirlwind.
Tonight at London’s 606 Club, the first in a series of ‘Whirlwind Nights at the 606’ starts with performances from WWR founder Michael Janisch and his long-standing musical colleague Zhenya Strigalev. This monthly residency will feature Whirlwind artists fronting their own bands for the first set (with special guests from time to time) and an invite-only jam session for the second set. More information on the October line-up which will feature both Tam de Villiers’ and George Crowley with their bands, to follow soon.

On Thursday 3rd September, Michael Janisch brings his brand new Paradigm Shift project to The Vortex for the first date of his 28 venue tour. This evening will be recorded live by BBC3’s ‘Jazz Line-Up’
For Paradigm Shift Janisch has taken as its basis a live quintet recording across two nights at Pizza Express Jazz Club, Soho (London), crafting and honing it into an absorbing 90-minute blend of live and post-processed electro-acoustic music.
Predominantly a quintet album with engaging solo and duo interludes and segues, Janisch could hardly have selected a more cohesive and eclectic personnel to realise his artistic intentions: versatile British saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist (including didgeridoo) Paul Booth; leading US trumpeter Jason Palmer (from Janisch’s 2010 solo debut, Purpose Built); free-spirited Argentinian piano/keyboard whizz Leonardo Genovese; and the sensitive precision of US drummer Colin Stranahan. Plus, the impulsive electronics of the London- based Alex Bonney feature on interludial tracks and post production effects (he performs with the band on tour to contribute these particularly effective manipulations).
