6th August 2015: Julian Argüelles to release ‘Tetra’ Oct 16, 2015 plus UK Tour & new album trailer

DSC_3048-3It gives us great pleasure to announce the debut Whirlwind release Tetra from saxophonist and composer Julian Argüelles on October 12th 2015 with his new band of the same name featuring Kit Downes (piano), Sam Lasserson (double bass) and James Maddren (drums).

From his beginnings with the legendary Loose Tubes, through his worldwide collaborations, to his searching solo projects, UK composer / saxophonist, bandleader and educator Julian Argüelles has always spoken with a unique voice and is hugely influential to a new generation of British jazz musicians. His music has been described as supremely lyrical, with beautiful melodies while staying cliche free.  He was nominated for Best CD in the 2015 Parliamentary Jazz Awards for Circularity (Cam Jazz label) and his quartet composition “Hocus Pocus” was shorlisted for a BASCA in 2014. He continues to be one of the most in demand musicians, composers and educators in Europe and in recent years, internationally.

Born near Birmingham, UK, Julian moved to London at the age of 18 where he gained recognition as a creative and original musician. At 20 he joined the much acclaimed band Loose Tubes. Over the past 30 years, he has toured and recorded throughout the world with leading musicians such as Hermeto Pascoal, Dave Holland, Django Bates, John Scoffield, Kenny Wheeler, John Abercrombie, and Bill Frisell. Tetra will be Julian’s thirteenth solo album.

The compositions for Tetra are amongst the most intricate I’ve written for a small group. Kit, Sam and James rise to the challenge of playing elaborately written music with an emotional depth.”  – Julian Argüelles
