Born in Anaheim California, and growing up in Spokane, Washington, John O’ Gallagher has been a presence on the New York scene for the past twenty years. He has worked professionally with many of the major aritsts of today such as Joe Henderson (winning a Grammy for the recording Joe Henderson Big Band), Maria Schneider, Kenny Wheeler, Richie Beirach, Drew Gress, Ben Monder, Bob Belden, etc. As a composer and leader he has received critical acclaim for his recordings Abacus – Arabesque Records, Dirty Hands – Clean Feed, Line of Sight – Fresh Sound New Talent, Rules of Invisiblity Vol. 1 & 2 – CIMP and Axiom – CIMP which feature music for quintet, quartet and trio. As an educator he has conducted workshops around the world at many schools including Hochschule Musik und Theater (Zurich, Switzerland), Jazzschule Basel (Switzerland), New England Conservatory of Music (Boston, Mass.), Seminario Permanente de Jazz (Pontevedra, Spain), Associacao Gremio das Musicas Jazz Workshop (Tavira, Portugal), Maine Jazz Camp (Farmington, Maine). He is the author of the upcoming book Twelve Tone Improvisation being published by Advance Music, and is a Selmer clinician endorsing Selmer saxophones.
