Jean Baylor

Profile

Jean Baylor, formerly one-half of the 90s R&B duo Zhané, has embarked on a musical journey that is a testament to her faith, artistry and lifestyle. Baylor has solidified herself as an independent force to take note of wearing many hats as a wife, businesswoman, producer, writer and vocalist.

In 2007 the Jersey native reemerged with a solo effort entitled “Testimony: My Life Story”. As a collaborative effort with husband and producer Marcus Baylor the project was released on her independent imprint Be A Light — an initiative co-owned with her husband. The album boasts a fusion of ballads and mid-tempo tracks that are both convicting and soothing.

While formalizing their production team “The Baylors”, Jean again teamed up with her husband, Marcus along with Dana T. Sorey of C Bazz Entertainment and Carvin “Ransum” Haggins of Carvin and Ivan Productions to compose and release her 2011 Christmas EP, “Light Up The World”. The project features Eric Roberson on the track “For Your Love”. The EP has a flagrant essence of holiday cheer mixed with spiritual praise.

With a collection of luxuriant and feel-good inspirational songs — relatable to life’s ups, downs and changing discourse — Baylor has dedicated her gift to touching the lives of others. Her honest approach to song is lithe and caressing providing a sea of meditative freedom.

Baylor exclaims, “My hope is that these songs will encourage the spirit of giving, love and sincere regard for others.”

Equipped with an agile mezzo-soprano, Baylor scales songs with a touch of melisma easing her versatility through R&B, Gospel and Jazz, with assertion. Baylor is a producer whose sweet sultry voice is poignant, smooth and intoxicatingly ear friendly like a young modern day Nancy Wilson.

Beyond singing, Baylor has penned and produced songs for artists and films including the Warner Bros release “Of Boys and Men”, Mary J. Blige and SWV. Baylor also appears on the track “How Would I Feel”, featured on Eric Roberson’s latest release “Mr. Nice Guy”
