Banned in London with 4 Star Review from Jazzwise this month.

We released ‘Banned in London’ a month ago and already we’ve just about sold out of stock on our first pressing as a result of the band’s European tour which saw them take in performances in Turkey, Germany and some of the most historic venues in the UK.  The album hasn’t even released yet in the USA, but the Euro-based press has been very solid indeed.  For the month of NOV, we’ve been informed that Jazzwise has given the album a glowing 4 star review and we’ve pasted it below.  To purchase a copy of the album, please visit the Banned in London album page.

ROBERT MITCHELL – NEW ALBUM:
THE GLIMPSE (18.2.2013)

A new solo piano album is to be released in February. It is for left-hand alone! Its called The Glimpse, and will be out on the visionary young label – Whirlwind Recordings – owned and run by the great bassist Michael Janisch.
www.whirlwindrecordings.com/big-news-for-20big-news-the-new-album-by-world-renowned-pianist-composer-arranger-robert-mitchell-for-feb-18-2013-release/

The album was the first to be recorded on the great Steinway D piano, at the Capstone Theatre, Liverpool, UK. The recording was produced by Pat Thomas (a leading light of the European Improv scene), and also recorded and mastered by the brilliant engineer Roland Clarke.
There will be some photo and video posts from this.
Many thanks to Neil Campbell for all his help and running one of the best new venues in the UK. The Capstone is one of a very few UK Steinway Schools. They therefore have a number of great Steinway pianos, both grand and upright, for these lucky students to use.

There will also be a special pre-release announcement soon, and a special preview on the album itself. Please join twitter for this (see the last note on this newsletter below)

LEFTITUDE 2013 – A VERY SPECIAL UPDATE

A brand new first. A festival of solo piano – performed by the left hand only! The brilliant venue – The Forge (Camden, London) – is where it will happen on 20+21March 2013. This also uniquely features performers from both the Jazz and Classical worlds : Clare Hammond, Ivo De Greef, Pat Thomas, and Robert Mitchell (Creator/ Curator/ Co-Artistic Director). There will be some interviews to begin the evening at 7pm, with the music starting at 7.45pm.

We are fantastically pleased to announce that the brilliant young pianist and recent media star Nicholas McCarthy (recently seen on Channel 4, Paralympic Games Closing Ceremony, BBC Piano Season Gala Concert) – will be hosting each night. He will also interview some of the artists onstage, and will be co-artistic director for subsequent editions of Leftitude. A performance in the second edition is also being planned! As the only graduate of the Royal College Of Music in its history – for left hand only piano repertoire – its a huge honour for us.

The new website is now live !!!  leftitudefestival.com/
To register, please signup there – and be the first to receive info and special offers. The new twitter link for the festival is here:  twitter.com/leftitudefest

Partikel with glowing review for ‘Cohesion’ from German site MOS EISLEY MUSIC “Each a master of his instrument”

News from Germany came in recently about a great review for WWR-signed Sax-trio-on-the-rise Partikel, who’s been making big waves in Mainland Europe following a flood of praise in their native UK.  We released their 2nd album and first for WWR ‘Cohesion’ earlier this year, and the band has been busier than ever constantly touring and developing their focused, ensemble sound.  Here’s a link to a German music reviewing site called Mos Eisley Music who among other great things says each of the players in Partikel (Saxophonist Duncan Eagles, bassist Max Luthert, drummer Eric Ford) is a “master of his instrument.”  That’s a pretty nice thing to say… Here’s their album page for more information, and check out the promo video below.  Thank you!

All About Jazz and The Observer rave about New Focus by Konrad Wiszniewski and Euan Stevenson

A pair of great reviews have just hit for our New Focus album which launched on NOV 5th of this year and has seen some very impressive accolades in the press so far. We’ve just had two great reviews come in and here are the highlights:

“New Focus is a great advertisement for the Scottish jazz scene. Wiszniewski and Stevenson are talented composers who, together with their fellow players, meld inspirations from classic jazz and Scotland’s own musical heritage to create exciting and innovative music” READ THE ALL ABOUT JAZZ FULL REVIEW HERE

“Wiszniewski has a ravishingly beautiful tone and Stevenson’s scores for string quartet, harp and rhythm section amount to much more than mere accompaniment. Combining jazz and classical idioms is a tricky business, but this succeeds splendidly.” READ THE 4 STAR OBSERVER REVIEW HERE.

The Aruan Ortiz and Michael Janisch Quintet (featuring Greg Osby, Raynald Colom and Rudy Royston) had a busy fall, launching their debut album Banned in London as well as embarking on a major release tour which saw the band perform in Turkey, Germany, and UK. Here, the band sold out both their tickets and nearly all our physical stock of their album! Don’t worry, a few boxes remain, and we’ve already ordered the next bundle.

Some great press hit recently for the album, and we’d like to share that with you now:
